Information for other teachers that might like to use this WebQuest:
- Students work together in groups to plan and make decisions for this project. The students then work on their own to write the different pages of the book. Then the students will meet back to peer edit/revise there books. During the peer editing/revising students are having conversations about the pattern of their book (does it flow together or sound choppy), they are discussing if the rhyming words really rhyme or if they need to work on them. The students are also working to help each other with any grammar/spelling errors they might find. Students are working together to make sure their book is just the way they want it. The students in their group are depending on each other to do their part or the book will not be finished in time to be published.
- To show differentiation, I used resources from different reading levels. I realize that not every student in my class is at the same reading level and that some of the resources would be to hard for them to find the information I required them to find, so I tried to find resources that would be easier for them to find that information. The www.enchantedlearning.com site was a lot easier for some of my students to use. Other students wanted to find out more interesting information and were able to use sites like www.arkive.org. The end project is still the same, but not every student will write the same amount of pages for the book is another way I met the diverse needs of my students. Some of the students took it upon themselves to write two pages of the book and let some of their group members work on one. The students in my room and great about helping each other and meeting the needs of their classmates so that everyone in our room learns!
- My students are very artistic and to encourage this ability, I chose to add a morning assignment at the end of the project where they could show me through artwork what they learned about their ecosystem. They then wanted to display their work for future classes so I added a few pictures, that the student's voted on, to this WebQuest. I am also adding a gallery of the other pictures that students wanted to share on the top and bottom of this page.
